Friedrich Zwingmann: St. Christophorus Motorway Church, 1976C–1978

  • Baden-Baden, Germany, Show on map
  • #REL #Western Europe
  • The church is built in the shape of a pyramid with glazing at the elevated ground floor. In every cardinal direction there leads a footpath from the building to a concrete column. These columns and many parts of the building are designed with biblical motifs by artist Emil Wachter using carved styrofoam as formwork for the concrete. They show Noah in the east, John the Baptist in the west, Elia in the north and Moses in the south.

  • In use and in good condition. There has been a campanile-like belfry added in 2012.
