  • The Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation (English: "Memorial to the Martyrs of the Deportation") is a monument on the Île de la Cité in Paris in memory of those deported from France between 1941 and 1944.

The monument looks like a light-colored bunker and is entered via narrow, uneven and steep stair steps. From a triangular courtyard, the crypt, the core of the monument, unfolds with narrow and sparsely lit passages. 200,000 glass rods on the corridor walls symbolize the countless victims of deportation to the Nazi camp. But an actual grave with the remains of an unknown deportee was also integrated into the monument.

The construction was largely made of concrete. Its mixture contains gravel from the different regions of France. The surfaces were hammered so that the exposed concrete resembles rough natural stone.

  • Since November 23, 2007 classified as Monument historique (historical monument).
