One of the biggest projects by Vann Molyvann: A stadium (84.000–100.000 seats), a sports hall (8000 seats) and a swimming compound (4000 visitors), surrounded by cooling water basins. Special thanks to Claus Donau, Basel.

The National Sports Complex is in use and not threatened by demolition, but has undergone significant changes and renovations in recent years. Until the beginning of 2024, the complex received a $500,000 renovation led by the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), primarily focused on modernizing the stadium with new seating to meet FIFA and AFC standards. While the brutalist character of the stadium remains central to its identity, the renovations reflect a push toward modernization rather than strict restoration of its original architectural style. This can be seen, for example, in the fact that the shape of the building has essentially been retained, but the concrete has been given a gray coat of paint, which has taken away the raw material aesthetics. Additionally, portions of the surrounding site were previously sold off for commercial developments, which raises concerns about the preservation of the original architectural and cultural integrity of the complex.Â
This building was included in the red list, published in our exhibition catalog SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey (September 2017). After a status review on December 4, 2024, it was reclassified in the online database from red (endangered) to gray (least concerned / unknown).
