Peter Womersley: Nuffield Transplantation Surgery Unit (Western General Hospital), ?–1963

  • Edinburgh, Great Britain, Show on map
  • #PUB #Western Europe
  • Opened in 1968, the building’s sculptural forms seem to evoke the pioneering forms of organ transplant surgery it contained as well as the technologically driven "white heat" modernity espoused by the Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

  • In use for different sorts of treatment. Externally intact, but painted in a shade of orange. Substantially altered internally (with the exception of the entrance hall and stair). (Special thanks to Alistair Fair)
