Peter Womersley / Ove Arup: Main Spectator Stand, Gala Fairydean Rovers F.C., 1963?–1965

The Netherdale Stand at Gala Fairydean Rovers Football Club in Galashiels is distinguished by its striking, angular design. The stand and roof are created by geometrically crystalline forms that have been cleverly assembled and turn the structure into an architectural sculpture.
-
The stand was listed Category A by Historic Scotland in 2006.
Over the years, there have been additions and alterations carried out to the stand, many of which have been poorly designed and executed. In addition, the condition of the reinforced concrete deteriorated, resulting in the stand being closed in 2017 to the public for fear of falling spalled concrete.
A sensitive refurbishment was carried out in 2021–2022. The exterior and structure is now saved from further deterioration. Concrete defects were repaired and waterproofing measures applied to sky facing elements (last updated on November 17, 2025).
