PROJECT DETAILS

Werner Düttmann: St. Agnes (today: König Galerie), 1965C–1967

  • Berlin, Germany, Show on map
  • #REL #Brick #Western Europe
  • A concrete nave, corner to corner stands the bell tower at the church building, on top of it a concrete cube that seems to float. Two vertical window slits in the walls and window bands in the roof light up the concrete church room with daylight.

  • Financial reasons and decreasing membership were the reasons for renting out the church ensemble. After an interim use of the "City Kirche Berlin", the building was leased by the gallery owner Johann König in 2012 and has been functioning as an exhibition hall since 2015.
In accordance with the architecture, the church was renovated based on the plans of the Berlin architects Brandlhuber+ Emde, Burlon, and realized by Riegler Riewe Architekten (realization of the church room gallery) and one to nine architects (realization of the community center).
Heritage protected since 2008 (last updated on May 7, 2024).
