  • In a row of houses that was interrupted with destruction as a result of air raids during the Second World War, the DRK Retirement Home by Reinhard Gieselmann closes a gap. Still, the five-story, flat-roofed building with its rhythmic, relief-like exposed concrete façade stands out from the surrounding buildings. Towards the garden courtyard, the building extends diagonally over an east wing with stepped storey heights and is supplemented by a free-standing, single-storey building to form an ensemble. Entering the front building from the street, one steps into the entrance hall designed with sand-lime brick and concrete, which runs as an air space through all 5 floors. The corridors of the different floors are led around a covered courtyard with exposed concrete balustrades and are visible from everywhere to the residents, just like the staircases, which wind sculpturally through the bright gallery space.

The premises of the emergency ambulance are located underground.
