  • Located on the dike in this port town, the town hall, which the locals refer to as a “Battleship”, is meant to emulate the notion of a ship’s bridge. The storeys each center on the core, revolving around it, set off by half a level in each instance.

  • In use. Renovated in 2012. The building has already municipal monument status and was proposed in 2025 to become a Rijksmonument, which means formal, nationwide monument protection. 

    Extensive renovation work will begin shortly, with the aim of making the building more sustainable and, in line with its democratic function, more accessible to the public. The brutalist features are to be retained. Broekbakema is involved in the renovation (last updated on January 31, 2026).
