  • Almost two hundred architect firms took part in the 1960 competition for the building of the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile. The winning project was developed by Emile Duhart Harosteguy in collaboration with Roberto Goycoolea, Christian de Groote and Oscar Santelices. The inauguration took place in 1966.

Duhart was a former employee in Le Corbusier's studio. The inspiration from this period is clearly visible in the building's design: a huge reinforced concrete structure with an interesting interplay of different volumes.

Special details include scattered reliefs on the exposed concrete façade with references to the history and art of Latin America and the Caribbean.
