The building of the Sede Social do Jóquei Clube de Goiás occupies 11,500 square meters of a 22,000 square meter site and was designed as a social and urban club.
The large open spans and the exposed concrete surfaces emphasize both the functionality and the sculptural aesthetics. The latter is achieved, for example, by means of the designed concrete columns, which are also familiar in this form from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (FAU USP).

The Jockey Club building is currently in a state of neglect. The building, which was once a key social hub in Goiânia, started to decline in the 1990s as people's habits changed, particularly with the rise of residential leisure areas. By the 2000s, the structure was no longer serving its original purpose and was rented out for other uses, including as an educational facility. In recent years, there have been attempts to preserve the building. A campaign led by the local architecture community, along with public mobilization under the banner “Salve Jóquei,” proposed that the structure be declared a heritage site. The proposal was submitted to the IPHAN (Brazil’s national heritage preservation institute), but it remains unclear if formal protection has been granted yet. Although the building has undergone modifications, efforts to save seem to be ongoing due to its architectural and cultural significance.
This building was included in the red list, published in our exhibition catalog SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey (September 2017). After a status review on October 16, 2024, it is still classified as red (endangered) in the online database.
