Paul Rudolph: Orange County Government Center, 1963D–1971

  • Goshen, New York, USA, Show on map
  • #GOV #Brick #Precast #Public #Sculptural #RescueCampaign #North America
  • It is only mentioned briefly in the current Paul Rudolph monograph, but thanks to countless articles on it, among others in the “New York Times”, is among the most discussed brutalist buildings at present. The ignorance shown by the public client and the judges who work in the building do not help things. Spacious on the inside and somewhat like a bastion on the outside, it is reminiscent of the Art & Architecture Building in Yale which was designed at the same time.

  • Found to be eligible for national register, but never listed. Structural restoration with a complete rebuild and partial demolition in 2015–2017 by Clark Patterson Lee. While one section has been completely removed, the concrete skeleton of the remaining two sections has mainly been preserved and were integrated into the new complex.
