  • This monumental building is clad in granite, isolating itself from the surrounding city. The exterior is shaped like an inverted ziggurat at the front side with few prominent trapezoid windows. On the inside the exhibits are framed by raw exposed concrete. The clad exterior begs the question if exposed structural materials are necessary in every instance for architecture to be called Brutalist.

  • A major part of the collection recently moved into a new building. While the building is still owned by the Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum houses new galleries in the old building for the next 8 years. Long term plans have yet to be announced.
