The Santuario di Monte Grisa is a Roman-Catholic church in the north of Trieste. The modular design principle of the 40m high reinforced concrete building is based on the isosceles triangle. There is a lot of symbolism in the design: while the triangle itself stands for the Trinity, a large M in reference to Mary can also be seen on the façade. From the outside, the entire shape of the building could be perceived as a ship. Situated 300 meters above sea level on the edge of the karst plateau, the building is an unmissable landmark.
The church was built between 1963 and 1965, after a first stone had already been laid in 1959.
