The 140-meter-long building of Filmhuset in Stockholm by architect Peter Celsing should resemble a camera, with the lens in the north. The exposed concrete façade consists of elements designed with the intention to look like filmstrips. Visitors have to ascend a long ramp to get to the main entrance. The building houses the Swedish Film Institute, a foundation established in 1963 with the aim of strengthening and developing the national film production. Hence, inside there are three cinemas, studios, an archive, a library, and two floors of office spaces.

In use. The building’s premises underwent a major renovation in 2008 to create a modern, open-plan office landscape.
Filmhuset is classified as “Code Blue” by Stadsmuseet Stockholm, the highest ranking in terms of cultural and historical value of buildings. This designation indicates its significant cultural and historical importance and gives it considerable weight in planning and development decisions. However, it is an expert assessment and does not automatically confer formal legal protection as a listed building (last updated on December 1, 2025).
