Junzo Sakakura’s Luna Hall in Ashiya, completed in 1970, is a space for cultural events physically connected to the Civic Center that exhibits Sakakura's clean, modernist design principles. The building's façade is simple yet bold, with large expanses of concrete marked by a horizontal board-and-batten pattern. The enclosed structure is reminiscent of crystal formations with its geometric shapes. The recognition value of the building makes it a familiar landmark in the city of Ashiya. Inside, Luna Hall's acoustics and layout are optimized for performances.
