  • The reinforced concrete building of ENSA Grenoble (formerly the Unité Pédagogique d’Architecture) shows a clear modular organization, terraced studio units, and a pronounced plasticity of volumes and spatial recesses. Characteristic features include the raw materiality of exposed concrete, the interplay of solids and voids, and a strongly articulated, almost sculptural façade composition. Daylight is primarily introduced through high-level, lateral skylights and façade openings, allowing it to penetrate deep into the studio spaces.

  • In use. The building is locally recognized as a significant example of contemporary architecture and is listed in local heritage inventories as Patrimoine monumental (civil) and under the label Architecture Contemporaine Remarquable. It appears in relevant registers of contemporary architecture (Mérimée / Inventaire ACR), but is not classified as a national Monument historique.

In the late 1990s, the building was extended and restructured. These interventions were carried out by Antoine Félix-Faure, Philippe Macary, and Dominique Page. The works respected the original exposed-concrete materiality, modular principles, and spatial logic of Roland Simounet’s design (last updated on December 13, 2025).
