Elegant exposed concrete building with different, interlocking cubic volumes. The visible board formwork pattern sometimes follows the horizontal, sometimes the vertical, which reinforces the lively impression of the façade.

Repurposed. After the closure of Bodø Svømmehall in 2003, the building experienced a period of uncertainty and vandalism. Since its acquisition by investor Ragnvald Anderson in 2011, the building has undergone revitalization, beginning in 2017, to adapt it for cultural uses. Now, it is used as a cultural venue known as “Svømmehallen Scene”, hosting events like the Parkenfestivalen, and serving as one of Bodø's leading cultural hubs, particularly for concerts and performances. This adaptive reuse project highlights the importance of preserving iconic architectural structures by reimagining their functions, and it has become a prominent example of sustainable urban development in Bodø. With regard to Brutalism, however, it must be said that some of the exposed concrete inside the building has been preserved, while the façade appears to have been painted white during the reuse process, judging by photos.
This building was included in the red list, published in our exhibition catalog SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey (September 2017). After a status review on November 5, 2024, it was reclassified in the online database from red (endangered) to gray (least concerned / unknown).
