Ot Hoffmann: Tree House, 1968?–1972

  • Darmstadt, Germany, Show on map

  • Growing up in nature, Hoffmann's aim was to get the nature into his house, or rather, on his house. Ot Hoffmann found a way to plant roofs without the roots damaging the roof. He was the pioneer in roof planting. The solution: concrete. The result: the tree house in Darmstadt. In the middle of the city center, he created a small oasis. Dense planting, even trees, water basins, and even a small wind power station find their place on the concrete terraces and roofs of the building. Actually, a bridge construction to the city center was also planned, but only the torso exists.
