Dragutin Kordić / Nikola Redžić: Hotel Tamis, ?–1978

  • Pančevo, Serbia, Show on map
  • #TOU #MachineAesthetics #Eastern Europe
  • Exposed concrete building with a flat base and prominent tower characterized by protruding and receding cubic modules.

  • After years of closure, the Hotel Tamiš was extensively renovated in 2022 and has been open again since 2023. It is the only hotel in Pančevo and was closed for more than a decade and a half as a result of a failed privatization. Many years of disuse led to the building falling into disrepair. A dilapidated rainwater drainage system took its toll on the fabric of the building. During the renovation in 2022, this problem was rectified, the interior was completely renewed and the base area of the building was also extended, for example to include a spa area and additional rooms for catering and events. However, the original appearance of the landmark remains: The renovations do not appear to have involved any significant changes to the façade.

This building was included in the red list, published in our exhibition catalog SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey (September 2017). After a status review on November 12, 2024, it was reclassified in the online database from red (endangered) to gray (least concerned / unknown).
