Thomas Wechs / Thomas Wechs Jr.: Don Bosco Church, 1960C–1965

  • Augsburg, Germany, Show on map
  • #REL #EdgeCase #Western Europe
  • While the exterior doesn't appear particularly Brutalist, the interior with its rough boardmarked concrete surfaces is characteristic for this architectural style. The churches’ prominent central building is spanned by an 18 meter high reinforced concrete dome which illuminates the interior through several skylights. The cool, quiet atmosphere is generated by the bluish tinted choir window behind the altar. Also impressive are the filigree almost 70 meters high concrete towers that dominate the silhouette of the Herrenbachviertel.

  • Heritage protected since 1997 (last updated on June 17, 2020).
