The ground plan resembles an arena, open towards the Eilenriede city forest. The massive exposed concrete building forms the college, projections, vertical windows and bare concrete surfaces with formwork patterns next to tiled surfaces design the façade.

The building was the first post-war music academy to be built in the Federal Republic of Germany.
