An angular UFO on stilts. The concrete building of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). A convex belly hangs between the diverging stilts and one would think they might have to buckle under this mass. The concrete facade is decorated with a relief of linear depressions which loosen the massive body. 

Was closed since 2009 due to danger of collapse. Demolished in 2021.

This building was included in the red list, published in our exhibition catalog SOS Brutalism: A Global Survey (September 2017). After a status review on February 17, 2021, it was reclassified in the online database from red (endangered) to black (demolished).
