  • The Kassel Art College is located on the edge of a large park. Studios and workshops are grouped around a central three story lecture center (pictured). The lecture center's steel frame construction rises above the roof to imply the possibility of adding another story and is visually separated from the main volume. The dominant materials are black painted steel, board marked cast-in-place concrete, aluminum and glass. Exposed fixtures and fittings and the use of standardized industrial parts are reminiscent of the Smithson's Hunstanton School and their ascetic "as found" aesthetics. Written by Jonathan Scheder.

  • Heritage protected.
