PROJECT DETAILS

Raue, Rollenhagen & Lindemann : Gasteig Culture Centre (Philharmonie), 1974D–1985

  • Munich, Germany, Show on map
  • #CUL #Brick #Western Europe
  • Monumental construction and alien appearance combined with the warm tone of the bricks. Gasteig provides an unique peaceful atmosphere in its cave-like halls and corridors. It represents an early use of brick for the monumentalisation of concert halls. Same approach was applied much later by Renzo Piano.

  • The building is currently being renovated and modernized. The plans include the renovation of the façade and brighter interiors. To this end, parts of the brick façade will be replaced with glass surfaces.

The project is set to cost almost EUR 700 million and will last until the early 2030s (last updated on July 31, 2024).
