L.J. Linssen was the city architect of Amersfoort from 1956 till 1966 when he designed an office building for the municipal health services (GGD), including an ambulance station in the annex. The repeated modular elements are grouped together into a unified whole. The plan of the building reveals the function of every modular element. The surfaces reveal the texture of the wooden planks used for the casting forms with a playful alternation of horizontal and vertical lines.

The GGD Office Building in Amersfoort has been a listed building since 2016. However, the building was also in need of renovation at the time. In 2018, the annex with the ambulance station was closed and later demolished. The remaining office building was then renovated and transformed into a residential building under the direction of AG NOVA Architecten.
Since January 2023, there have been twelve townhouses on the site. Nine of these houses are located within the former GGD office building, while three further townhouses were added in a newly constructed clinker-brick building. In order to blend in harmoniously with the existing building, the proportions and rhythm of the brutalist façade were taken up in the design of the new building's façade. At the same time, the new building was set back slightly in order to respect the architectural independence of the old one.
The conversion and restoration of the former GGD office building required a particularly careful approach in order to preserve listed features. These include the striking exposed concrete façade with its rough formwork structure and the characteristic copper rain gutters. The building was also renovated to make it more energy efficient: For example, the interior façades were insulated, new wooden window frames with insulating glazing were installed and solar panels were fitted. Green roofs also contribute to the sustainability of the project (last updated on February 26, 2025).
