The prefab balcony system is reminiscent of several other German university buildings like at the Ruhr University, as well as Kenzo Tange’s early prefectural hall, reminiscent of wood construction techniques.

The Institute is planning to move to a new building in the coming years. The current structure is in bad condition and threatened by demolition. A visit in December 2024 showed that the building is still standing and in use. The concrete is covered with many red patches (last updated on January 7, 2025).
