  • This building hosts the headquarters of the journal El Universal. It was awarded with the National Prize of Architecture in 1971 because it integrated very efficiently a complex program, which included the printing industry in the basements, direction and writing departments in the first floors, and a rental tower above. Special attention was paid to solar protection, visible throughout the concrete Brise Soleils. The building respected the old urban layout, defining its corner condition. In the original project, a twin tower and a square were contemplated, nonetheless, these terrains were not possible to be acquired. During construction, it survived the terrible earthquake of Caracas of 1967, reason why the structural system was deeply revised together with Martin Meiser, Ernesto Sreming and Eduardo Arnal. It proved that it worked efficiently during tremors (rigid center with perimetral columns).

Concrete reliefs in the lobby were created by the artist Carlos González Bogen.
