While the main Aula building is organically shaped, its separate cooling structure (with a mural by Victor Vasarely) is much more rigid. The Aula is one of several noteworthy Brutalist structures on the campus. The whole ensemble was designed by Carlos Raúl Villanueva throughout many years, which is reflected in the varied styles of its parts.

Designated UNESCO wold heritage since 2000. However, the buildings are in poor condition and maintenance is neglected. Parts are in urgent need of restauration and renovation (last updated on February 7, 2025).
