The Banca d’Italia in Catania is a monumental administrative building with a strictly structured façade and an emphatically block-like appearance. Despite its natural stone cladding, the architecture exhibits key features of Brutalism—such as the massive overall form, the deep sculptural relief of the façade and the uncompromising appearance. The building is exemplary of a late modern architectural language that combines brutalist design principles with local materials and rationalist clarity.

In use and in good condition. Since December 2023, a large-format mural by artist Camilla Falsini has been on display on the façade facing Via Don Luigi Sturzo. “Banco di Vita” is the title. The work is part of an initiative by Banca d'Italia to promote cultural openness and social participation (last updated on July 20, 2025).
