The massive structure rises as an almost windowless cuboid above a raised plinth whose narrow supports seem to lift the mass. The smooth exposed concrete façade is only interrupted by small horizontal incisions, which reinforces the austere monumentality of the volume.

The General Post Office is currently in a precarious state. Although the building is currently in use, plans were announced in 2018 to demolish the building to make way for a prime commercial development. As a result, a petition was launched to preserve the building. Future unclear (last updated on February 12, 2025).
