Carlfried Mutschler: Community Center, 1968

  • Mannheim-Vogelstang, Germany, Show on map
  • #REL #Western Europe
  • The red-brick community center stands out against the surrounding grey high-rise buildings. The complex consists of different geometric bodies which form a kindergarten and a parish and community center. Unfortunately, the financial resources have not been enough to realize the planned church and retirement home. A path leads the visitor from the street to an open, covered entrance area. The red brick is used here as a blinding material and was used uniformly, the concrete signals supporting parts, for example the concrete pillars supporting the entrance area. Due to the uniform use of materials and the interrelated geometric bodies, an organic ensemble is created.
