Kenton Peters: St. Paul's, 1968

  • Madison, Wisconsin, USA, Show on map
  • #REL #North America
  • Exposed concrete church, sitting on a stair base, resting on curved beams which are holding the top-heaviness of a concrete cube. Inside, concrete pews have been covered by grey carpets.

The sacral building was the epitome of change, resulting from the Second Vatican Council. It also served as a backdrop for some of the biggest vietnam protests in the country which took place on the University of Wisconsin's campus.

  • The church was demolished in 2016. The replacement building was directly inspired by rennaissance italian architecture and employed italian artists. It was finished in December of 2017.
