Einsfeld, Odenwaeller, Spiess: Hannibal Terrace House, 1974

Small and large Hannibal, built simultaneously at different locations in Dortmund. But the construction method is the same, both residential complexes are terrace buildings. As with buildings built on a slope, the path of the staggered levels was used here as well (split level). The large Hannibal has 16 floors, the smaller one 12. Despite the enormous building mass, the architects managed to loosen up the construction.Especially, open floors and loggias contribute to this impression.

The smaller Hannibal is even better preserved and is still used as a place to live and is usually fully occupied. The big Hannibal, on the other hand, was closed in 2017 due to renovation and refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen at the end of 2020. However, modernization work for the smaller Hannibal is also pending. Unfortunately, many features such as careful color accentuation or the visual quality of the concrete were lost in both buildings due to renovation work.
