Justus Dahinden: Ferrohaus (Pyramide Am See), 1965?–1967

  • Zurich, Switzerland, Show on map

  • The Swiss architect Justus Dahinden, who was known for provocative architectural experiments and urban utopias, designed and realised the Ferrohaus in Zurich from 1965 on. His best-known buildings include the Zelthaus in Rigi Kaltbad, the Schwabylon shopping and leisure centre in Munich and the Trigon village in Zurich Hottingen. Justus Dahinden passed away in the spring of 2020.

The commercial building, commissioned by the Swedish metal company Ferrolegeringar AG, had to adhere to the stringent requirement of the building regulations to set back the upper floors. Justus Dahinden developed the pyramid shape from this. The cladding of the concrete surfaces with Corten steel, a reference to the client's field of activity, makes this building a particular case of brutalism.

  • In use. Today, a private clinic has opened in the building. Special Thanks to Karin Bürki / HEARTBRUT!
