The Water Tower stands on one of the highest elevations in the city. As a result, the structure which was built out of exposed concrete is visible from afar. By the design’s separation of water tower and stair tower, an imposing silhouette was created.Â
The nearly 30m high Water Tower is composed of a cylindrical shaft of 7m diameter and two cylindrical water tanks of about 10m diameter, one above the other, separated by an accessible mezzanine. The shaft contains technical rooms. The end of the tower is formed by an open platform with a view as far as the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest. There are three transitions from the stair tower to the water tower: at the level of the first floor ceiling, to the mezzanine floor and at the top to the viewing platform.Â
An artistic as well as technical feature on the façade is a plane mirror for the Stuttgart-Backnang directional radio link in the shape of a human eye designed by the architect.
