  • After the architecural competition in 1961, the construction of the church after plans by Peter Leonhardt was started in 1963. It is an octagonal central building with a folding roof, which figuratively makes the church look like a crown in reference to the King of Jesus. In the center, the roof is crowned by a golden cross. The concrete skeleton building has a total of eight wall sections, which ground plan-wise slope outward in a triangular shape. Closed and diaphanous glazed concrete molding walls alternate in these sections. Inside, the four closed walls and the ceiling are covered with wood to achieve good acoustics. The construction of a bell tower was initially abandoned for financial reasons after the archdiocese's admission – and has not been made up for later.

  • In 2003, the Christ-König-Kirche was listed as historical monument (last updated on March 22, 2021).
