  • In the 1970s, Emsdetten grew strongly with many new housing estates in the Hollingen area. This created the demand for a new Catholic community center. For this project, Dieter Georg Baumewerd won the competition in 1969. The result was a multifunctional church building typical of its time, built with a reinforced concrete beam construction system. The overall structure is elongated and has a stepped roofscape. The load-bearing beams are not only clearly visible inside and out, they also protrude from the top of the church and point towards the sky. The walls between the supports are filled with windows in the upper areas, and – separated by crossbeams – by bricks laid in a pattern in the lower areas. A distinctive feature is the design of the interior, which has a diagonally sloping coffered ceiling structure.

At a later time, the separate brick bell tower was added; it resembles two interlocking cuboids of different heights.

  • Heritage protected since summer 2020. However, the protection-grade applies to the church, the integrated community rooms, and the original equipment which still remains in the building, but not to the bell tower. During the 1980s and later, new furnishings have been brought into the church. These are not part of the heritage protection as well.

Originally, the concrete parts of the structure have been exposed while they are painted in light gray today.
