Friedhelm Grundmann: Nathan Söderblom Church, 1966C–1968

A new industrial and residential area was built in the Reinbek-West district in the 1960s and 1970s. The old church in Hamburger Straße became too small. Friedhelm Grundmann won the architectural competition for the new church. The functions of the church are expressed volumetrically in the largely windowless building. Entrance rooms, side galleries and a church tower with a connecting bridge are added to the main cube. A skylight illuminates the church interior. Exposed concrete ceilings and columns are left visible, otherwise a red brick façade characterises the building. Inside, the brick surfaces are whitewashed.

Heritage protected. The church is in use and generally in good condition. Around 2021, the church received a new heating system. For 2025, renovation work is planned, including repairing damage to the façade (last updated on September 26, 2024).
