Arthur Erickson / Geoffrey Massey: MacMillan Bloedel Building, 1968C–1969
- Vancouver, Canada, Show on map
- #COM #North America
-
Constructed for forestry giant MacMillan Bloedel, this landmark building has been likened to an old-growth tree – it tapers from plaza level to the top floors. Cast-in-place concrete construction demonstrates various finishes: exposed aggregate paving, sandblasted concrete walls, and bush-hammered concrete relief panels both inside and outside the building.
-
Heritage protected and in use. The building is considered one of the most outstanding examples of brutalist architecture in Canada. In 2021, the owners renamed the building Arthur Erickson Place, but the original name is still in common use. In 2023, it underwent extensive renovation and environmental upgrades, earning it LEED Platinum certification in 2019 (last updated on October 27, 2025).
