Hom & Eggendorfer: Roncalli-Kolleg Student Dormitory, 1968C–1970

  • Munich, Germany, Show on map
  • #RES #Western Europe
  • The Roncalli-Kolleg Student Dormitory was built by the Munich Archbishop's Office for the students of Munich's universities of applied sciences. The main building with the entrance area, which opens onto Nymphenburgerstraße via a paved forecourt with trees and sculptures, forms a sheltered courtyard with the lower rear building. In addition to sitting areas, a May tree and potted plants, the round chapel of the dormitory is located there. Like many Brutalist buildings in Munich, the dormitory fits into the historically grown block edge structure. The entire ensemble is built in exposed concrete with wooden ribbon windows.
