The School of Law Building of the University of Maine is a rare example of Brutalist architecture in Maine. It was expanded in 1993 to include more space on the first floor to accommodate the law library.
-
In 2023, the Law School moved to a new building in downtown Portland, leaving the brutalist building empty. There are currently plans to demolish the former Law School building, but the cost of demolition has not yet been raised.Â
Architectural Digest named the building one of the 8 ugliest in the United States in 2017 (last updated on February 13, 2025).
