Javier Díaz Llanos / Vicente Saavedra / Enrique Seco: Official Association of Architects of the Canary Islands (Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Canarias), 1966D–1971

  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, Show on map
  • #CUL #Western Europe
  • Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Canarias is located in a steep avenue, creating an open air plaza next to the building. There is a clear distinction of volumes according to their functions: a closed box as a conference hall, balconies in front of the office spaces, a slender vertical circulation core and the exhibition hall beneath the plaza. The exterior appearance is defined by exposed concrete façades with patterns of the wooden formworks. In the interior spaces, exposed concrete is combined with red glazed floor tiles and wood.

  • The building is used in its original function as Headquarters of the Official Association of Architects of the Canary Islands. Despite little renovations of the concrete surface of the plaza, the general preservation status of the building is ok. Inside, most of the original fixtures, luminaires and suspended ceilings have been preserved. You can access freely by the plaza, the main vestibule and the exhibition hall (which was reopened in 2018, with sporadic exhibitions since then). Special thanks to Iria Ibáñez and David Delgado Baudet.
