Structurally, the folded roof plus hexagonal beams have formed eight structural frames, supporting the span of the roof. The column-less design can allow flexible use for a large audience. Although the white structural system is not in fair-face concrete, its exposed structure and exaggerated geometry fall right into brutalism realm. With a palette of textures and colours, white Shanghai plaster is used on load-bearing structures while fluted grey Shanghai plaster is found on walls. Despite the fact that Shanghai plaster acts as a decorative layer on concrete wall, it might still amplify a rough and austere texture. Szeto’s projects are mostly brutalist, designed in the same period as CUHK projects, the fairfaced concrete/ Shanghai Plaster resemblance can be seen across this North Point church, Wu Chung Library, T.C. Cheng Building, Adam Schall Residence, and many more.

In use. Well-maintained façade. Grey-coloured Shanghai Plaster was used to make a similar touch of fair-faced concrete
