An early exemplar of post-war sacred architecture, this structure adeptly bridges German brick expressionism with the robustness of concrete brutalism. Individually, the modest materials and elements may appear unremarkable; however, when quietly contemplated together, Schwarz has fashioned a complex atmosphere imbued with a gentle ethereal beauty.
Central to this aesthetic is the juxtaposition of the organic texture of the earthy bricks against the geometric forms of the concrete cuboids, a motif that permeates throughout the church.  illustrating both the architects and the ‘landlords’ intelligent design and discerning sensibilities. Moreover, the apparently randomised window openings interspersed within the tabernacle brickwork evoke a pervasive sense of omnipresence, compelling visitors to confront an existential reality that transcends the confines of the temple walls.Written by Jamie McGregor Smith
