The complex was built for the sailing competitions of the 1972 Olympic Games in Germany. The design was the result of an architectural competition in which SEP Architekten won first place.
Parallel to the existing harbor, an approximately 300 m long concrete transverse bar with 400 apartments, a spectator terrace, stores, boat halls and much more was constructed, tapering upwards on both sides. The design idea was to continue the cliffs in the form of a plinth structure.Â
Behind this, parking lots and green spaces were created, two high-rise buildings with around 168 apartments, a hotel with 500 beds and a development of 32 bungalows were built.
