Bernhard Reiter / Heiner Klarmann: Bad Buchau Health Resort (Kurzentrum), 1971D–1975

  • The Bad Buchau Health Resort consists of two flat-roofed buildings: a six-storey building with rooms for guests, dining and event rooms and a four-storey staff building. Both are arranged around a piazza and located directly next to the Kurpark (spa gardens).

Architects Bernhard Reiter and Heiner Klarmann designed the health resort in exposed concrete and chose expressive forms: The fact that the floor plan of the large guest house consists of several interlocking hexagons and that the storeys taper towards the top creates an interesting building shape that emphasizes the horizontal with the circumferential and kinked parapets on all storeys. The staff building next door is less spectacularly organized with a more rectangular floor plan. However, its façade stands out with its even more intricately folded balcony parapets, whose sculptural expressiveness is further enhanced by the staggering of the storeys in the style of a terraced house.

The health resort is one of the dominant monumental buildings in Bad Buchau.

  • The façade was painted subsequently.

Heritage protected since 2023 (last updated on June 6, 2024).
