Rinaldo Olivieri: La Pyramide, 1968D–1973

  • As a counter concept to buildings in the International Style of the day also found on the Ivory Coast, which were not really best suited to the local climate with their sealed glass façades, Olivieri conceived the market-like shopping mall with an open facade devoid of glazing. However, due to high maintenance costs and the inefficient organization of space, especially evident on the higher levels of the supporting towers, the building has been largely abandoned since the 1990s.

  • Largely empty, dilapidated condition, modernization plans since 2011, fate remains uncertain.

Update 2020: The Pyramide is still boarded up and in advanced state of disrepair.
